I find it really interesting that musicians have started to take what has formally been know as just "classical instruments" and have started playing modern music like pop songs and songs that have new ideas and techniques thrown in. There are millions of covers of all different musicians playing the latest pop songs on youtube and also there are full pop oriented orchestras. Another example are show choirs or an acapella group singing songs that the people of the 21st century know. Playing these kind of songs can be appealing to some but not everyone. Many musicians try to add a flare of modern songs, new ideas, and different techniques to make their  performance or act more interesting and also to draw in a younger audience. They will take a modern song and infuse it with a well known strictly classical piece into a mash up to savor the old and the new at the same time.

I personally enjoy many of the instrumental covers of pop songs and the in general the different styles fused. I appreciate the older classical music, it's beauty, and it's depth. Most of the time I enjoy that style of music more, but in certain cases the infusion of a modern song or technique can make a piece of music relatable for a younger audience and also can be a fresh twist to something that is otherwise considered old.

There also can be elements of classical music infused into pop songs, it goes either way.

  2. I'm excited to see Maya Beiser! Dean McCoy was explaining to us that she did rock music, on the cello. Which I find so cool and am really looking forward to hearing! I think this applies!!

  3. I love these videos! I personally think all these instruments are beautiful. Their pure sounds are just gorgeous. I particularly have a love for the sound of the violin. I think videos like this could be a way to get more people interested in classical music (sort of tying into Lexi's post "Is opera really a 'dying art?'" Getting people to realize the beauty of these typically classical instruments through listening to them play songs they're familiar with could potentially get to want to listen to more of these instruments and then they could discover the lovely world of classical music! Also, I loved Maya Beiser. Fantastic! Everything I said about the videos I also thought about her performance.
